The Coordinator of Student Involvement for the Ohio Union Activities Board (OUAB) serves as a key member of the department of Student Activities who supports individual students and student programming through OUAB. The advisor for OUAB assists students with every aspect of the event booking processes including artist booking, contract negotiation, logistical event preparations, and marketing. This position will develop meaningful working relationships with campus and community entities to offer extraordinary programs and events. The advisor will design and conduct trainings for the executive board and general members of OUAB.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Involvement, this position directly advises members of the 13 person executive board of the organization. There is the potential for this positon to supervise a graduate administrative associate, practicum, and internship students. This position supports budgets of approximately $2.1 million.
The work of this position is grounded in ensuring students feel as if they belong, are connected, and see themselves represented in the activities of the department of student activities, office of student life, and the university. This position demonstrates an awareness of and support for diversity and inclusion in program content and recruitment processes to reach a broad student audience.
Student Activities is housed organizationally within the Office of Student Life and physically within the Ohio Union. The Student Activities team is led by the Associate Dean of Students/ Senior Director of Student Activities and Orientation, and includes functional areas of leadership programs, community engagement, student organizations, student governments, campus programming board, major campus events, graduate/ professional student engagement, and discount ticket program. The Student Activities team consists of 20 full-time and graduate staff members, as well as ~50 student employees. The staff culture is characterized by a focus on student development, creativity, inclusiveness and mutual respect, high energy and expectations, evidence-based practice, and commitment to healthy work-life balance.
In addition to the details in the position description, here are key milestones for the first 12 months in this position: 1.Within the first 30 days, initiate positive working relationships with Student Activities staff members, direct advisees and supervisor, and campus partners. 2.Within the first 90 days, initiate effective advising relationships with executive board members, including understanding the basics of programming and processes of programming at Ohio State. 3.Within the first 6 months, build a foundation of knowledge around operations of the Ohio Union Activities Board, engage in conversations about ways to enhance the organizations, demonstrate budgetary accountability, and implement key programs. 4.Within the first year, demonstrate success in key position responsibilities, establish strong relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders, complete staff performance management process including setting self-directed goals for the upcoming year.
