The General Manager is a full time, at-will employee directly hired by the Board of Trustees. The General Manager is responsible for the implementation of policies and directives of Board of Trustees and is responsible for administering and supervising the day-to-day activities, finances, personnel, administration, support and other duties and responsibilities of the District. The General Manager applies the provisions of the Health & Safety Code as it relates to public cemetery districts, serves as Executive Officer to the Board of Trustees, prepares strategic plans, monitors and controls revenues and expenditures, directs the work of consultants and contractors as required.
The Board of Trustees is seeking a proven leader of integrity that is innovative, and dynamic with exemplary professional qualifications. In addition, the successful candidate will have outstanding oral and written communication skills, excellent judgment, strong follow-through, impeccable work ethics, and a proven management, budgetary and supervisory track record.

The General Manager must be:

Possess financial skills and abilities to manage fiduciary responsibilities of investing District assets;
Capable of supervising a diverse, professional staff; and establish good working relationships
Able to set an appropriate example for others by maintaining high ethical standards;
Able to be responsive to the Board of Trustees by fully implementing board goals in a timely manner;
Organized and have experience managing, designing, and completing complex projects within tight deadlines;
Innovative by identifying creative solutions to successfully resolve operational issues;
Diplomatic and able to maintain neutrality while presenting Board recommendations;
The ability to be flexible but professional;
Able to establish a strong, capable team;
Knowledgeable about state laws, legislative processes, and procedures governing Public Cemetery Districts
Knowledgeable about public facilities and services provided by local government;
Able to communicate orally and in writing to staff and to public, both in informal and formal settings;
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, and experience with a public or private cemetery, park or community services district is desirable. The position requires at least five years of progressively responsible administrative, budgetary, and supervisory experience within the last ten years. Work experience involving state or local governmental agencies is desirable. Relevant private sector or military experience will also be considered.
Additional Salary Information: The salary is negotiable depending on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. The current range is a high of $80,000 per year
About North County Cemetery District
The North County Cemetery District, (San Diego County), encompasses most of the north San Diego County including Escondido, San Marcos, most of Vista, parts of Carlsbad, Rancho Santa Fe, City of San Diego, and the unincorporated north San Diego County areas. It is bordered on the north/east by the Valley Center Cemetery District and the Ramona Cemetery District. To the south is the Pomerado Cemetery District. The District maintains two cemeteries and provides interment services for district residents and district property owners and their families. The district covers approximately 202 square miles, serving a population of 400,188, (2014 SANDAG). The District performs approximately 400 interments per year.
