The Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care System in beautiful Phoenix, Arizona is seeking full time Staff Psychologists to treat our nation's veterans at The Phoenix VA Health Care System's Midtown CBOC. We are particularly interested in applicants with 2 years of experience, or more.
The selected Psychologist will be assigned to the Health Psychology Section of the Psychology Service, and will function as a full member of the Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) Program and Medical Psychology Consultation Service. Within PCMHI, the psychologist will provide same day services to Veterans, including assessment and brief therapy as needed for psychological or medically related concerns.
The position will require knowledge of time-limited, evidence-based psychotherapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy for depression (CBT-D) and/or insomnia (CBT-I), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) or Problem-Solving Therapy (PST). The psychologist may also be asked to conduct Health Psychology duties including Medical Psychology Consult management, individual therapy for health-related concerns, and pre-surgical evaluations (pre-transplant and bariatric surgery).
Duties of this position are as follows:
Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others.
Provides brief assessment for a range of mood disorders and medical conditions, brief individual therapy, and group therapy
Responds to Same Day referrals from Primary Care clinicians with brief assessment, referral or treatment options. Provides LIP support as part of interdisciplinary PCMHI team.
Completes risk assessment and evaluates for appropriate level of care.
Provides consultation to professional staff within Phoenix VA HCS and to community providers, concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans for patients.
Functions independently as a member of the Phoenix VA HCS Medical Staff, with clinical privileges. The psychologist assumes complete professional responsibility for his/her clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation.
Actively participates in the treatment planning process with other disciplines and in interdisciplinary treatment team settings.
Participates in the design, development, and implementation of clinical programs for the Veteran population served.
Adheres to operational policies and procedures for health care as directed by the Phoenix VAHCS, Psychology Service Chief, and Health Psychology Program Manager.
Assists in the execution of ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects to monitor effectiveness of the clinical program.
Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs to effectively coordinate services and provide inter-professional training.
This position may be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program through the Mental Health Hiring Initiative.
Normal Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm (May include flexible work schedules, including early evening hours and weekend duties)
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed
Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA
Must be licensed in ANY U.S. State

Federal Retirement Plan:
VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits; 2) FERS basic benefits (pension); and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
