In the ever-evolving field of athletic communications and intercollegiate athletics, this position will afford the intern a chance to work in various areas of administration at the NCAA Division III level with an emphasis on promoting St. John Fisher College's 24 intercollegiate programs. This is a two-year term position and fully-funded by the NCAA through the Ethnic Minorities and Women’s Internship Grant. St. John Fisher is a member of the Empire 8 Conference and recently finished 36th in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, which measures the postseason successes of all athletic departments across the Division III Landscape.
Athletic Communications (60%) - Aid the athletics communications coordinator with the daily communication needs of the department and the College as a whole -Assist and manage the production and expansion of the department's video library including highlight, game recaps, recruiting materials and other promotional content - Alongside the athletics communications coordinator, the hired intern will be responsible for overseeing two staff associates that work primarily within the department - Help hire, develop and guide a large group of student workers within the athletic communications office - Create various publications to include game-day programs, digital signage for scoreboards and televisions throughout campus and recruiting guides using Adobe Creative Suite - Assist with coordinating game-day management, including staffing (statisticians, spotters, public address announcers, music operators and video board operators) - Assist in providing statistics, including live stats, for all home events that require in-game scoring - Work with various outside media groups to further broaden the St. John Fisher College brand through print, online and video mediums -Serve as a liaison with the Empire 8 Conference, the NCAA, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and athletics communications officials from competing institutions
Social Media (20%) - Help develop and grow the nationally-ranked social media platforms for St. John Fisher College Athletics -Develop content for Twitter and Instagram using Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop and After Effects - Create and implement social media contests for athletics’ Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts - Collaborate with the College’s Office of Marketing and Communications to ensure that athletics’ social media efforts are in accordance with the College’s plan -Assist the athletics communications coordinator in broadening the department's social media library to include any new or emerging platforms
Compliance/Marketing/Special Events/Community Service (10%) -The hired intern will play a significant role in the promotion and management of the 2020 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, which will be held on St. John Fisher College's campus -Assist the associate director of athletics and assistant director of athletics with duties related to compliance including educating staff members to new and changing rules and by-laws - Help the assistant director of athletics with various on-campus programming such as the Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) - Assist the Office of Institutional Advancement in the coordination and implementation of the College's annual Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet and the senior athlete luncheon - Assist the athletics communications coordinator and the director of athletics with compiling nominations for the St. John Fisher Hall of Fame, creating biographical and statistical information for each candidate and helping to tabulate votes - Coordinate the promotion of any specials events that will take place in 2018-19 including various charitable endeavors that the department undertakes (i.e. Courage Bowl XIV, Giant Read, any conference or NCAA postseason games, etc.)
Special Projects of their interest (10%) - Will have the opportunity to pursue interests within the framework of the position - Will be afforded the time to explore and implement projects based on the pursuit of those interests
Education / Experience:
-Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year institution.
-Experience creating video packages and knowledge of various video editing software including Adobe premiere is required
-Qualified applicants will have 1-2 years of experience working in a related field
-Qualified applicants must have a strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, InDesign. Experience with After Effects is a plus.
Supervision of Employees:
This position is expected to work a minimum of 35 hours per week, however, hours will vary based on need and athletic event scheduling. This is a 10-month position with full benefits including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, the ability to contribute to the College’s retirement with a match and tuition remission after one year of employment. The position requires night and weekend work and may require the intern to work holidays.
