The Department of Political Science in the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences at California State University San Marcos invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2018. We are interested in candidates who specialize in American politics, with an emphasis in Congress, with a secondary specialization in minority political representation.
Minimum qualifications for the position include: Ph.D. in Political Science by August 2018; primary teaching and scholarly emphasis in Congress, with an emphasis on congressional representation and interest group influence in the policymaking process; evidence of teaching effectiveness; evidence of an active scholarly agenda. ABD candidates will be considered, but must have completed the doctorate at the time of appointment (August 2018).The successful candidate must be prepared to teach survey courses on Congress, as well as social science research methods. A secondary specialization in the political behavior and representation of minorities, and the ability to teach courses on race and ethnicity, are also required. Candidates must also have demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research, and/or service.
Duties and responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to offer courses in his/her area(s) of specialization. The candidate will also be expected to teach introductory American government (PSCI 100), and social science research methods (PSCI 301) on a regular basis. The typical teaching load is three courses per semester. The faculty member will advise and mentor Political Science students, develop an active research agenda, and provide service to the Department of Political Science, to the college, to the university and to the wider community.
