The analyst of index development develops a series of Standard & Poor's branded indices with a focus on equities. The analyst is responsible for developing the indices, overseeing essential data collection, verifying that the calculation procedures and methodology are implemented correctly, and passing the finished product on to index managers for maintenance.
Preparing and calculating S&P branded indices. This includes performing analytical research on companies to determine the composition of the index, adjusting data in our calculation system, and adjusting the data to conform to the rules of the index.
Work on various other projects for the Index Maintenance and Production group. This includes various projects concerning the clean-up of historical data.
Coordinate maintenance of indices with operations group to ensure that the most efficient operations technology/database etc. is being utilized in the calculation of indices.
Other Required Accountabilities:
Work with the technology group to further enhance our system capabilities by identifying deficiencies in our work flow and quality control processes.
Deeply involved in development of new indices or other index related projects.
Works with index operations to assure calculations are correct and timely.
Must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines. The projects involve; requirements gathering, analytical thinking, compilation of business requirements, index development, and documentation.
Must be able to clearly communicate to a variety of both internal and external clients.
Work affects overall revenue stream generated by Index Services
Work reflects on the reputation of major Standard & Poor's index series
Knowledge, Education & Experience:
Fluent in English.
Strong Understanding of global equity markets and knowledge of other capital markets.
Bachelor's Degree. Advanced degree in business, math, economics, or finance strongly preferred.
Knowledge of Matlab or similar software strongly preferred.
Must be able to work independently on multiple projects with minimal direction or supervision.
Must be able to demonstrate excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities to solve original, non-routine problems in a timely and insightful manner.
Superior computer skills in Excel, Word and related applications. VBA would be an advantage. Experience with S&P Capital IQ, Thomson Reuters Eikon, FactSet or other financial applications a plus.
Ability to learn S&P's proprietary index calculation engines.
Ability to assume responsibility, work with others and manage projects
Ability to learn new data and calculation platforms in a limited time
