The Controller provides specialized accounting services to Zeiders from the corporate office in Woodbridge, VA. The Controller is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of internal controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards. The Controller supervises the accounting team including functional responsibility over general ledger accounting, accounts payable, billing, accounts receivable and payroll.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide a visionary and leadership role on behalf of the accounting department to include managing and overseeing the activities of the corporate accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements and annual audits and annual budgets.
Ensure all regulatory, audit, or other reports are prepared in a timely manner. This includes tax reporting, bank reports, and DCAA and/or other government reporting requirements.
Oversee the activities of the disbursement department, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, core employee expense reports, cash control, core payroll processing and total corporate payroll tax compliance.
Oversee the activities of the accounts receivable department to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including billings, cash receipts application, etc; funding service management, which includes weekly funding reports and customer service; quarter and year-end payroll closing including federal and state reports; and check statistic management.
Assure corporate income tax compliance to assure the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes.
Establish and maintain documented systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data, and enhance the company's value.
Participate in a wide variety of special projects and meetings to include writing and/or verbally presenting a variety of related reports and information.
Communicate with co-workers, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner.
Assist in the preparation and management of contract budgets; monitor budget expenditures authorized; oversee budget for conformance to funding; track monthly financial execution and analyze financial information to determine present and future financial performance; identify budget and execution trends and recommend improvements accordingly.
Respond to CFO as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate the organizations’ financial needs.
Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
Provide subject matter expertise for all general accounting and payroll transactions to include handling escalation procedures for the successful resolution of related transactions ans activities.

This job requires the supervision of the Accounting Department staff including the direct supervision of leaders in Payroll and Accounting who supervise A/P and A/R Accounting Specialists, and the Sr. Payroll Specialists. The Controller carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration with an emphasis in Accounting, or a related field
8+ years of experience in field with exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
3+ years experience as a Supervisor
5+ years progressively responsible experience in Government contract management. Must be able to comprehend and apply laws and regulations applicable to business operations in a Government contracting environment.
Proficiency and previous a working knowledge and experience Deltek Time and Expense, Costpoint Accounting Software, Cognos (Impromptu) Reporting Software, Ultipro HRIS or equivalent systems.
Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Advanced knowledge of accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations.
Knowledge of DOL and other regulatory impacts as it relates to compliant wage and hour impacts for staff.
Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations
Able to work well with senior executives and team, as well as mentor/lead other team members
Professional experience leading full payroll with third party vendors and interfaces with a multi-state organization.
Successful experience with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically using Word, Excel and Outlook.
Proven experience with a high level of organizational skills, quality and attention to detail.
Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) license
Masters of Business Administration
Experience with Deltek Costpoint and Deltek Time & Expense.
Experience with UltiPro Payroll systems
