We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Director - Student Mentoring and Career Development.
The Assistant Director, Student Mentoring and Career Development, works closely with the Associate Dean for Biomedical Sciences of the Sackler Institute at the NYU School of Medicine, a division of the Graduate School of Arts and Science of New York University, to identify opportunities, develop strategy, and lead, implement, administer, and assess new programs to support professional development of graduate students. The incumbent will lead strategic planning to develop a transformational and coherent professional development program for our diverse student community, focusing on mentorship and career planning throughout their graduate tenure. The incumbent is also responsible for integrating graduate students into a comprehensive program of professional development activities and connecting students to professionals and opportunities in academic, industry, non-profit, and government sectors, as examples. This position will work with the graduate student community, faculty, post-doctoral office, and Sackler leadership to develop professional development opportunities, benefits and services for graduate students. This position will also act as a student advisor, mentoring graduate students on a wide range of academic and career concerns.
This position will develop additional programs as needed for students from traditionally under-represented groups as they relate to gender, race, ethnicity, condition of ability, sexual orientation and gender identity, and socio-economic status. In this capacity, the incumbent will also lead diversity and inclusion efforts of the Sackler Institute in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Biomedical Sciences. Working closely with Sackler leadership, faculty, and other units across the University, the incumbent will be responsible for strategic planning and for the implementation and management of programs designed to recruit, retain, and support diverse pools of graduate students, including but not limited to faculty and student training.
Develop a professional development program within the Sackler Institute.
Develop and oversee implementation of early and ongoing quantitative and qualitative assessment of diversity programs and career development initiatives.
Mentor and advise graduate students on academic, personal, and career concerns.
Determine quality practices of other graduate career development programs to use as benchmarks for evaluating Sackler programs.
Help students build their professional networks via workshops, networking events, and other programming.
Serve as a student advisor to field questions and provide confidential guidance to trainees on career and professional development.
Attend local, regional, and national meetings to network and gain exposure to emerging graduate student trends in biomedical sciences.
Possess a strong commitment to enhancing multicultural understanding at Sackler.
Provide advice, guidance and support on equality and diversity issues.

Must have a Masters degree and/or five or more years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in graduate school education.
Possess a demonstrated history of success working both independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrate the ability to pay close attention to detail.
Outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
Must possess strong skills in diplomacy.
Strong ability to think critically.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe products.
Broad experience in the development of programs designed to improve the quality of the educational and social experiences of graduate students.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
