Department of Media and Communication, School of Arts and Sciences, St. John Fisher College, Rochester, New York, invites nominations and applications for a full time Visiting Assistant Professor of Media Management starting fall 2018.
The candidate’s teaching/professional experience should emphasize analytics and media business and economics. Consideration will also be given to candidates who present a diverse experience profile that would be consistent with a teaching position in Media Management. The Department of Media and Communication includes three majors: Media and Communication, Media Management, and Digital Cultures and Technologies. The department has approximately 150 undergraduates enrolled in these majors. The program also offers minors in Media and Communication, Strategic Communication, Journalism, and Digital Cultures and Technologies, and is closely associated with the minor in Film and Television Studies.
This faculty member would be assigned teaching duties in the undergraduate program in Media Management, as well as the new master’s degree in Strategic Communication. The normal teaching load for a visiting professor is four 3-credit courses per semester, with optional opportunities for summer teaching in the new graduate program.

Visiting faculty in the department carry a four-four teaching load and are expected to show a commitment to teaching. They are also expected to advise students and perform service for the department. They are encouraged, but not required, to continue their research and contribute to college-wide committees. An annual travel stipend is available to all full-time faculty.
The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in applied media research, web analytics, strategic communication, and media economics on the undergraduate and graduate level. He or she would also coordinate the curriculum and assessment of our business communication course, which is taught by several adjuncts. We welcome applicants with additional areas of expertise including brand management, non-profit management, media entrepreneurship, media relations, and the ability to teach an upper level seminar in an area of research.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to be an effective teacher, a collaborative team player, and demonstrate a commitment to community engagement. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the US, and be available to start teaching in fall 2018.
Education / Experience:
Applications are invited from candidates who have completed a doctorate or doctoral candidates with a scheduled completion date for the dissertation. Applicants with an M.S. or M.A. in communication or a field related to media management (including M.B.A.’s) will also be considered. Previous teaching experience (in some form: as an adjunct, as a teaching assistant, as a K-12 teacher, or as a corporate trainer) is required. Previous industry experience is preferred.
