About the Position:
Principal Research Engineer: Senior softwaredeveloper/software engineer with ability to work within the larger engineeringcommunity.
As a Principal Research Engineer you will be part of a team developing standards and toolsfor engineering of complex systems, working with government, industry, andother academic partners. The job requires understanding of the challengesof large-scale systems of systems, ability to apply this understanding to thecreation of standards, and implementation of tools application of the standardto systems engineering.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct day to day project work, includingleading engineering and/or software design, implementation, analysis,maintenance or experimentation. (80%)
Lead effort in modeling and analysis of discipline-specificengineering problems.
Lead effort in development and maintenance of discipline-specificsoftware systems and/or engineering tools
Develop, recommend and/or define discipline-specific engineeringtests and technical standards
Develop and maintain familiarity with and expertise in emergingtechnologies and techniques related to research project and research goals
Engage in strategy development and execution in order to supportand further project and research goals
Ability to work independently
Take ownership of and lead all activities in a specific area ofresearch project
Lead technical documentation and reportingoversight. (10%)
Create and/or review documentation created by research engineersfor accuracy.
Ensure quality and accuracy of all systems within project researcharea and scope of responsibilities
Direct delivery of technical progressreports/presentations in written and oral forms to sponsors, project researchstaff and faculty. (10%)
Contribute to sponsor/research team/Principal Investigator and/orArchitect communications effectively and professionally
Advanced software systems modeling and systems engineering skills
Excellence in software design, implementation, integration andtesting
Software process management and execution
Ability to work well in teams, and work within scope of largertechnical community.
Familiarity with complex systems architectures and system ofsystems engineering processes and standards.
Experience working on military or DOD systems.
Programming Languages: C, C++, Java, Ada, Python
