DESCRIPTION: Orange County's "State of the Art" Animal Services Center has an immediate opening for an energetic and dynamic individual with high standards for animal care and customer service to the public. The Animal Care Technician (ACT) is temporary, part-time position within the Shelter Division of the Animal Services Department.
This is a temporary position. Hours will vary based on department needs. Possible working hours are between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays; 9:00 am and 7:30 pm on Tuesday and Thursday; and 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Expected working hours are from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Thursday (32 hours per week). The expected length of this position is between three and six months, depending on operational needs and funding availability. **Fitness for Duty Assessment required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: ACTs perform an exciting variety of duties that include providing daily care for pets as well as providing exceptional service to shelter visitors and customers.
Animal husbandry responsibilities include, but are not limited to feeding animals; cleaning animal enclosures, facility, laundry, and equipment; monitoring and reporting changes in health and behavior of animals; handling animals; assisting veterinary staff with animal examinations and treatments as needed.
Customer service responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting individuals with incoming pets, lost pet recovery, and pet adoption; working effectively and collaboratively with staff and volunteers; providing assistance to new volunteers; and contributing positively to our fun and rewarding work environment.
Work may include other related duties as assigned.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: •Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. •Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds. •Experience in a retail, restaurant, or customer service driven environment is preferred. •Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina •Previous animal care experience is preferred. •The ideal candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills, is highly organized and detail oriented, and likes working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The ability to juggle multiple demands and work collaboratively is critical.
Additional Salary Information: 13.75/hour
