POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Dean of Mathematics and/or the Director of the Institute for Completion, the STEM Center Coordinator plans and administers academic support services for the math and science divisions.
NOTICE: A Professional Expert, as authorized by Education Code §88003, is neither a part of the classified service, the academic employee group, nor a management position. This assignment is temporary and terminable at any time without cause at the sole discretion of the District, and does not lead to a permanent status.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Supervises the administrative functions of the STEM Center including math and science drop-in tutoring, embedded tutoring, study groups and boot camps. - Directs new and routine activities to ensure student participation and success. - Provides leadership for the planning, organizing, coordinating, scheduling, and implementing of the STEM Center activities for the District. - Utilizes independent judgment in the interpretation and application of policies and procedures requiring tact and good communication skills. - Conducts outreach to ensure students are aware of and utilizing services. - Maintains the efficiency and effectiveness of programs. - Recommends and implements changes that will improve instructional support for students served by STEM Center services each year, and for the District and its programs. - Collects and organizes usage data and collaborates with Institutional Research. Shares results with the math and science deans and faculty, and uses their input to make changes to services and strategies. - Maintains positive working relationships with other departments on campus. - Communicates District policy and administrative decisions to assigned personnel and students. - Creates an atmosphere of collegiality and supports the goals of participatory governance. - Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates assigned personnel. - Maintains the STEM Center budget and monitors spending. - Resolves conflicts that may arise. - Insures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. - Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position and the District's mission and philosophy.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of educational software, math and science curriculum, and educational innovation. - Knowledge of learning styles, learning resources, and study skills across all math and science subject areas. - Knowledge of assessment and placement criteria used in a community college environment. - Knowledge of course sequencing within and between STEM disciplines, including accelerated and non-traditional pathways. - Ability to work independently and perform all of the relevant duties of the position with only general direction; - Ability to work effectively in a shared governance environment. - Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students and managers. - Ability to effectively use a personal computer and a variety of job-related software applications. - Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in order to meet schedules, timelines and goals. - Ability to conduct short and long-range planning, including implementation. - Ability to communicate effectively, in English, with a diverse population both orally and in writing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: --Prior experience coordinating a STEM Center and/or Match Success Center in a community college environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: --Requires a master's degree or higher in math or science earned from an accredited institution. --Demonstrated understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, cultural background, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty, and staff.
