JOB SUMMARY AFSCME 1178 MEMBERS ONLY
The Cash Application Representative facilitates payment and/or adjustment processes regarding third party and direct party (patient driven transactions) toward the Accounts Receivables balances for the facility. Accuracy, reporting, troubleshooting and performance in these processes is important to the overall financial health of the facility.
Performs cashiering functions (payment acceptance, processing or adjustment processing) for the facility, clinic or assigned area
Posts all lock box, credit card transactions, manual checks, wire transfers, refund requests and ACHN deposits, as applicable
Posts all point of service payments which may be in the form of any of the items listed above
Daily payment or adjustment posting including zero payment posting for al! payments received including payments reported and received by external vendors or affiliated providers
Assists in researching posting or adjustment discrepancies regarding electronic posting rejections, posting mismatches, deposits, as applicable
Analysis and resolution of payment posting errors or adjustment discrepancies regarding 835 electronic posting rejections, posting mismatches, deposits, as applicable
Reconciliation of payments or adjustments to batch totals (manual, electronic) and/or daily totals (as applicable)
Timely research, identification and processing of all refund monies due to: patient, government payers and third party payers
Assist in the research and timely resolution of system transaction control errors (TCE) including accountability for root cause identification and resolution through consistent documented feedback loop to respective parties
High School Diploma or GED is required
One (1) year of experience in hospital account receivables activities related to cash/application is required
Medical/Hospital Billing or Collection Certification/coursework
One (1) year of experience in hospital account receivables activities related to cash/application within multi hospital system
Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Polish
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of the following software programs: Siemens Application, Cerner Application, Emdeon Revenue Cycle Portal, and other systems of record respectively, and exceptional Microsoft skill set to include Access, Excel, Work, PowerPoint and Visio, Monarch Application, or knowledge of hospital specific accounting, billing and customer service systems
Knowledge of specific equipment, specify:
Computer and Wyse Terminal connectivity, processing/functionality Numeric 10-key processing of 12,000+ kph (200+kpm) and keyboarding skills of 35+ wpm
Ability to perform cashiering functions (payment acceptance, processing or adjustment processing) for the facility, clinic or assigned area.
Skilled at performing timely research, identification and processing of all refund monies due to patient, government payers and third party payers. Assist in the research and timely resolution of system transaction control errors including accountability for root cause.
Commitment to support conversion to higher percentage of electronic payment and adjustment.
Ability and willingness to train others in the department in relation to the timely and accurate posting of payments or adjustments. Ensure payments are posted within one business day.
