The Oceanography Department of the Naval Postgraduate School invites applications for an intermittent research associate position with experience in (i) designing and performing high-resolution numerical experiments, (ii) develop analytical theories of key physical processes, (iii) integrate observations with theory and modeling, and (iv) write scientific papers. Applicants must show a history of work in the field of mesoscale modeling or closely aligned areas. The official position title is defined as “Faculty Associate – Research”. The tour-of-duty schedule is contingent on the availability of funding.
The Oceanography Department is part of the Graduate School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. We are seeking a colleague to join our vibrant OC Department, which has a long history of excellence in physical oceanography, ocean acoustics, ocean dynamics, nearshore processes, ocean waves and turbulence, ocean analysis and prediction, and high latitude ocean dynamics. The OC Department has a strong research infrastructure, such as facilities and vessels located in close proximity to Monterey Bay, CA, an experienced group of technical staff, and computational resources. The OC department promotes interdisciplinary research and encourages research collaborations with the number of oceanographic institutions located around the bay.
NPS is a federal institution within the U.S. Department of Defense that awards MS and PhD degrees. The student body is composed of U.S. and international military officers from all services, as well as federal employees.
An earned graduate degree is required. A Ph. D in an oceanography, engineering, or related field is a preferred qualification;
Preference given to candidates with experience in numerical and analytical modeling of mesoscale processes;
Must currently hold or be eligible for a Secret clearance;
U.S. citizenship required.
