We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Financial Analyst.
In this role, the successful candidate reports directly to the Assistant Director of Finance and assists in providing oversight for all financial aspects of the Department of Population Health. The candidate assists with monthly financial updates and variance analyses for the departmental fiscal budget (grants, contracts, school operating, discretionary, gift accounts, endowments) and provides reliable and responsive accounting and finance services in alignment with the strategic direction and needs of the department. This position assists the Assistant Director of Finance in updating and implementing policies, procedures, and systems that govern financial functions to ensure appropriate internal controls and maximize operational efficiency and works closely and effectively with other departmental administrative groups, including Research Administration, and with institutional administration to reconcile financial activities and reports.
Works with FA and Assistant Director of Finance to monitor all program budgets and troubleshoot problems identified from reports
Works closely with key faculty and administrative leadership in each division to monitor financial status, identify and resolve any issues, and ensure balanced accounts.
Monitors discretionary budgets on monthly basis and conducts variance analysis of budget vs. actuals
Provides financial analysis for special projects as needed
Assists in developing and submitting fiscal year departmental budget and assisting with the budget preparation processes
Provides financial analysis as needed to support an annual review of all departmental faculty effort, federal time and effort reporting, and a quarterly internal review process with each division.
Proposes, then implements, efficient process and workflow improvements.
Leads day-to-day Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Petty Cash operations of the department
Reviews all financial transactions to ensure financial compliance and alignment with budget (Accounts Payable and Purchasing, including procurement cards).
Troubleshoots purchasing and payable issues with Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Compliance departments
Conducts Accounts Payable/Purchasing/Finance training for department employees
Other duties as assigned.
To qualify you must have a Bachelors Degree in Health/Public Administration, Business, Finance, or related fields
Minimum of 3 years of financial experience in the Healthcare, Academic, or Nonprofit fields.
Masters Degree in Health/Public Administration, Business, Finance, or related fields
5 or more years of financial experience in the Healthcare, Academic, or Nonprofit fields
Experience with post-award financial management of extramural funding
Works in a team effectively and prioritizes tasks accordingly
Adept at analyzing data, summarizing information, and presenting in a logical format
Able to identify, research, and resolve problems, and follow-through on assignments with minimum direction
Exercises good judgment, based on gathering and analyzing factual and objective data; interprets policies/procedures in order to make sound independent decisions
Demonstrates creativity by identifying effective solutions to problems
Exhibits professional growth and willingness to expand knowledge base
Exceptional organizational, problem solving, and customer service skills
Understanding of financial reporting requirements and regulations, and general accounting principles
Strong familiarity with Accounts Payable/Receivable processes and knowledge of Microsoft Office, including expertise in advanced functions of Microsoft Excel
