Assistant Civil Engineer for Specifications and Estimating
NYC Parks is the steward of nearly 30,000 acres of land — 14 percent of New York City — including more than 5,000 individual properties ranging from Coney Island Beach and Central Park to community gardens and Greenstreets. We operate more than 800 athletic fields and nearly 1,000 playgrounds, 1,800 basketball courts, 550 tennis courts, 67 public pools, 51 recreational facilities, 15 nature centers, 14 golf courses, and 14 miles of beaches. Major Responsibilities •Under supervision, write site work specifications of advanced complexity. •Work with the Deputy Director to develop detailed specifications for coastal areas subject to flooding. •Investigate, research and propose solutions for technical systems. •Utilizing AutoCAD and other software, prepare and/or supervise the preparation of standard detailed drawings and develop specifications and cost estimates for proposed details. •Review sites and designs with construction and maintenance personnel. Conduct occasional site inspections for quality assurance. •Conduct research on new materials and methods of construction. •Serve as an agency technical expert and answer questions on technical matters. Participate as a committee member of the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), which includes voting on technical specifications and recommended test methods. Remain informed of requirements and guidelines promulgated by other governing bodies including the United States Access Board and Consumer Product Safety Commission. •Participate in training agency consultants and in-house landscape architects on how to write custom specifications and use Parks standard specifications, details and prices. •Assist in analyzing data to produce standard price list. Qualification Requirements 1.A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college and one (1) year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or 2.A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college and a master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college. A master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college can only be used to substitute for one year of full-time satisfactory work experience in civil engineering.
A degree in any other engineering area, or in any engineering technology area, is not acceptable.
This position is exempt from NYC residency requirements.
Note: A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in New York State may be required for certain assignments. If required, this license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.

Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 plus excellent benefits
